Leeds Carers Centre
Aims: To alleviate some of the stress and social isolation felt by Carers by offering emotional support and a listening ear. Volunteers are recruited, trained and then matched with a Carer. They will offer regular visits, at the Carer's home or another venue of the Carer's choice, telephone calls, shared social outings and an introduction to Carer support services. They will also support a Carer through particularly difficult times e.g. when someone is in hospital, or when looking at residential/nursing homes. The volunteers are people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities who have offered their time. They will have received training in topics like confidentiality and will have some understanding of Carers needs. They may be former Carers themselves.
The scheme is part of the Leeds Carers Centre and is funded by the National Lottery Charities Board.
